About this podcast:

Everywhere around us are echoes of the past. Those echoes define the boundaries of states and countries, how we pray and how we fight. They determine what money we spend and how we earn it at work, what language we speak and how we raise our children. From Wondery, host Patrick Wyman, PhD (“Fall Of Rome”) helps us understand our world and how it got to be the way it is.

New episodes come out Thursdays for free, with 1-week early access for Wondery+ subscribers. Listen ad-free on Wondery+ or on Amazon Music with a Prime membership or Amazon Music Unlimited subscription.

What happened after the Bronze Age Collapse and the end of the palaces that had defined Mycenaean Greece? It's easy to present this time as a "dark age," but is that really the best way to understand it? Professor Alex Knodell is an expert on the archaeology of Greece from the Bronze Age through to the Iron Age, and his perspective on this oft-neglected period is fascinating.

Hosted by Ash Kelley and Alaina Urquhart from the hit show Morbid.

When 90-year-old Laurence Pilgeram drops dead on the sidewalk outside his condo, you might think that’s the end of his story. But, really, it’s just the beginning. Because Laurence and others like him have signed up to be frozen and brought back to life in the future. And that belief will pull multiple generations of the Pilgeram family into a cryonics soap opera filled with dead pets, gold coins, grenades, fist fights, mysterious packages, family feuds, Hall of Fame baseball legends, and frozen heads — lots of frozen heads. From Wondery, comes a story about life, death, and what comes next.

Prior to the Iron Age, the Mediterranean had already been a highway moving around goods, people, and ideas for millennia. But as a new era dawned, the Mediterranean became something very different: an interconnected space, bringing together all of its shores for the first time.

When the end came for the Assyrian Empire, it came quickly. Former enemies pounced on the weakened state, and brought home the violence that for so long had characterized Assyrian conquests abroad.

The Assyrian Empire had a well-deserved reputation for brutality, but brutality alone doesn't explain why it lasted for so long; its residents must have bought into the imperial system for some reason. Professor Bleda During, an expert on the archaeology of empires, shows how people outside the center of Assyria interacted with the empire, and what they got out of it.

The Neo-Assyrian Empire has been almost forgotten in comparison to the other massive states of the ancient world, but at its peak, it stretched from the Nile to the Caspian Sea and central Turkey to the Persian Gulf. Assyria was a brutal and dominating force for centuries, and it pioneered the infrastructure and ideology of empire, laying the ground work for everything that came after.

The sheer amount of time separating the establishment of the first cities in the ancient Near East, and the invention of cuneiform writing, from the end of the period that they define is mind-boggling: almost 3,000 years, far longer than the span that separates us today from the end of that period. Professor Amanda Podany has written a fantastic book on this whole age, entitled Weavers, Scribes, and Kings, that looks at both kings and everyday people in a fascinating time and place.

About this podcast:

In a country obsessed with gossip, the great and the good fear one thing more than any other - scandal.

British scandals change the course of history. They bring down governments, overthrow the rich and cause the mighty to fall. Some are about sex, others about money. In the end, they’re all about power.

But often at the heart of a scandal, there are ordinary human stories, stories of those caught up in the swirl of outrage.

Who was really to blame for what happened? Why did they do it? And when all is said and done, did anything really change?

From the creators of Business Wars, American Scandal and Even The Rich, comes British Scandal. We tell the stories of the murkier side of the British elite, from Phone Hacking to Saville to Profumo who show us the reality of power, the price of pride and the failings of the great and good. Because sometimes the truth doesn’t set everyone free…

For more than three and a half decades, the disappearance of 12-year-old Jonelle Matthews was a mystery – a riddle neither authorities nor her family members could solve. The residents of her cloistered Colorado hometown had scoured every inch of prairie. Jonelle’s face had been on milk cartons nationwide. Even the President of the United States had appealed to the public for help. Still, every lead had fizzled. Every person of interest had turned out to be a dead end.

Then, in 2019, Jonelle’s remains were unearthed near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. With the discovery came a troubling new question: Had the truth been hiding in plain sight the entire time? Was the man who couldn’t stop obsessing over Jonelle’s disappearance also the person who took her? From Campside Media and Wondery comes season two of SUSPECT. Former CNN reporter Ashley Fantz and executive producers Matthew Shaer and Eric Benson (Suspect, Over My Dead Body) dig into one of the most mind-bending cold cases in modern history, in an attempt to separate fact and fiction, compulsion from guilt, and true-crime fandom from a motive for murder.

Matt and Alice talk to Dan Richter, friend and live-in assistant to John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the 1970s. An American who, in his own words, “came along for the ride: a co-conspirator, confidant, assistant and dope-buddy”, Dan gives us a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the private world of John and Yoko. He recalls the making of Lennon's legendary hit 'Imagine', and tells us whether he believes the couple were truly compatible.

About this podcast:

Every scandal begins with a lie. But the truth will come out. And then comes the fallout and the outrage.

Scandals have shaped America since its founding. From business and politics to sports and society, we look on aghast as corruption, deceit and ambition bring down heroes and celebrities, politicians and moguls. And when the dust finally settles, we’re left to wonder: how did this happen? Where did they trip up, and who is to blame? From the creators of American History Tellers, Business Wars and Tides of History comes American Scandal, where we take you deep into the heart of America’s dark side to look at what drives someone to break the rules and what happens when they’re caught. Hosted by Lindsay Graham.

On April 26th, 1865, Union soldiers closed in on the barn where Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth and his co-conspirator David Herold were hiding. When Booth refused to give himself up, soldiers lit the barn on fire to drive him out, then shot him dead. Herold surrendered and was later executed. It was the end of a 12-day manhunt that gripped a grieving nation. Abraham Lincoln was the first American president to be assassinated, but he would not be the last. In the decades that followed, more American presidents would find themselves in the crosshairs of an assassin’s gun. Some would survive the attempts on their lives — but three more presidents would not.

Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City on a mild October evening in 1985. She told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband, Charles Warren, at a car dealership. But she never made it, Sheree vanished.

When a young mother disappears under unexplained circumstances, police always turn suspicious eyes towards the husband. And although there was distrust around Charles Warren, he wasn’t the only suspect when Sheree went missing. She also had a boyfriend, a former cop named Cary Hartmann, who lived a sinister double life.

Season three follows two suspects– men who both raised suspicion for investigators. But with two strong persons of interest with competing facts and evidence, it muddied the murder investigation. This season, host Dave Cawley, digs into the lives of these two men, the details of the case and examines the intersections between domestic abuse and sexual violence. The COLD team seeks to answer the question: what really happened to Sheree Warren?

The terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, took a large toll on America’s sense of security. In the dawn of this new era, Congress moved to take swift action by creating the Patriot Act. The stated goal was to identify and strike back against terrorists, but in practice, the law had much wider-reaching effects. But everything changed in 2013 when an intelligence contractor named Edward Snowden decided to expose the truth, leaking more classified documents than any whistleblower in American history.

This four-part series from American Scandal follows Edward Snowden’s transformation, from a respected intelligence officer, to the most wanted whistleblower in the world.

When Guy Raz interviews business leaders from the world’s biggest companies on How I Built This, he’s looking for more than anecdotes of success.

Guy has spoken with the founders of some of the world’s best-known companies about their journey to where they are today. His goal is to inspire you with their stories, to provide you with a roadmap to learn how to think differently and to approach challenges like they’re opportunities, just like an entrepreneur.

In 2016, Fawn Weaver became fixated on a newspaper article telling the little-known story of Nearest Green, a formerly enslaved man who taught Jack Daniel—yes, that Jack Daniel—how to make Tennessee whiskey. After diving deeper into the story, Fawn and her husband Keith purchased the 300-acre Tennessee farm where Nearest had taught Jack to distill; and Fawn decided the best way to honor Nearest was with a bottle of the best Tennessee whiskey she could make. With no background in distilling, she threw herself into the insular world of spirit-making, and today, Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey is one of the top-awarded whiskeys in the U.S.

January 25, 2017, seemed like any other ordinary day for 58-year-old Robert Baron, a respected business owner of a popular restaurant in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, and a family man. He closed up his restaurant for the evening and then made a quick trip to drive his son home nearby. Robert often spent the night in an apartment above the restaurant so he could be there first thing the next morning for the dough delivery. The delivery driver was accustomed to Robert being there on time for every delivery, but Robert wasn’t there on the morning of January 26. Thinking perhaps Robert was running late or had an emergency, he left the dough out front and went along his delivery route. Robert was supposed to pick his son, Bobby, up for work early that morning. He never showed up, and calls from Bobby’s phone went unanswered. Bobby decided to walk to the restaurant instead. There he found an unfamiliar scene, the dough sitting out front. He made his way inside, and something wasn’t right. Not only was his father not there, but things were out of place. Bobby began calling around, but no one had seen his father. Six years later, Robert’s family is still searching for answers.

If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Robert Baron, please contact the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office at (570) 963-6717.

Last week we brought you the first part of 18-year-old Kelsey Collins’ story. A teenager who had been through more than most in an entire lifetime disappeared in May 2009, just nine days after her 18th birthday. Kelsey was involved with bad people, really bad people, but what wasn’t known at the time was just how profoundly and long-term Kelsey had been victimized by much older predators. She was set to testify against her abusers but was left unprotected by authorities. Shortly after testifying before a federal grand jury, an indictment was issued, and Kelsey vanished.

If you have any information about the disappearance of Kelsey Collins, please call the Everett Police Department at 425-257-8400 or the Seattle Police Department at 206-625-5011.

On the evening of May 9, 2009, just nine days after her 18th birthday, Kelsey Collins left her home in Everett, Washington, to visit a friend in Seattle, approximately 30 miles away. Kelsey was a radiant and intelligent young woman. But Kelsey was still young and naive and never returned home. The nearly fourteen years of looking for her have spanned from teenage innocence and rebellion to the dark, nefarious and ugly underworld of human and sex trafficking. What happened to Kelsey is a story you’ve seen play out in media headlines, but no two stories or victims are the same. Her disappearance is the final act in one of the most heinous crimes a person can commit. Still, her victimization at the hands of dangerous people is only part of her story. Though Kelsey’s case has garnered some media attention, no one has shared an in-depth and comprehensive look at her life until now.

If you have any information about the disappearance of Kelsey Collins, please call the Everett Police Department at 425-257-8400 or the Seattle Police Department at 206-625-5011.

In early 2003, 29-year-old Clinton Washburn called his parents, and he was angry. The whole thing ended up being a misunderstanding that they worked out during that phone call, but after that, they stopped hearing from Clint. Months later, in September of 2003, they received a typed letter allegedly from Clint. It stated that he found a rich woman to marry, he planned to take her name, and they would never locate him. Clint’s parents were crushed by this letter and didn’t know any way to reach their son as the letter had no return address. Believing their son wanted no contact and hoping that maybe someday he would change his mind, Clint’s parents waited. They thought he would eventually call or show up at the door, but it never happened. Clint’s father passed away in 2018, and his mother, Margi, thought for sure, he would turn up at that time, but still no word from Clint. After that, Margi decided to report her son missing, more than 15 years after that letter arrived in the mail. They came to learn that there had been no trace of Clint since 2003, and the more they discovered, the more disturbing things became.

If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Clint Washburn, you are urged to call the Kewanee Police Department at (309) 853-1911.

On September 14, 1990, 10-year-old Kacey Perry disappeared while visiting with her father at his home in Portland, Oregon, after the two had a disagreement. In Part 1, we learned that it’s believed Kacey made it to a store blocks away from her father’s home, possibly to make a phone call to ask someone to pick her up. Witnesses spotted her at this location, and her belongings were later found at the store. It remains unclear if Kacey was picked up by someone she knew or possibly went with a stranger. In the early days of the investigation, one person close to her mom stood out. His name is Brian Keith George. Nearly a year after Kacey disappeared, he was arrested for a bank robbery and had something shocking to tell investigators.

If you have any information about the disappearance of Kacey Perry, please call the Portland Police Bureau at 503-823-0000.

On September 14, 1990, 10-year-old Kacey Perry was visiting with her father at his home in Portland, Oregon. That evening, the two had a disagreement during a conversation about Kacey coming to live with him full-time. Her father told Kacey to go to bed for the night, which he believed she had done. Her father went outside and chatted with a neighbor for a bit. When he returned, he found that Kacey was missing. He drove around the neighborhood but could not find Kacey anywhere. That is when he alerted the police that his daughter was missing, and the search began. No one could have guessed that more than 30 years later, they would still be searching for Kacey.

Six months ago, we brought you the story of 70-year-old Sandra Eckert, who had been missing for 15 months from Franklin, Wisconsin. The story was eerie, with so many haunting hallmarks we’ve heard in many stories with the same patterns of behavior. When we first shared Sandra’s story with you, we held a significant amount of information in confidence at the request of Sandra’s family and law enforcement. At that time, we knew that there were sealed court documents that could lead to some significant developments in the case and possibly an arrest and indictment. While the developments we want to share with you today are not a final resolution to Sandra’s case, they are a step forward in the investigation. We want to end 2022 on a positive note looking forward to the major developments we hope and believe will take place in 2023.

If you have any information about the disappearance of Sandra Eckert or the car she was driving, please call the Franklin Police Department at 414-425-2522.

On September 11, 2014, 63-year-old Daniel Farrar left the assisted living facility he resided at in Westbrook, Connecticut. He had $20 on him and stated he was going to get himself some lunch. Danny often left for walks or to grab some lunch. He was one of the younger residents in the home and got bored staying inside all day. Danny was seen that day at a local store making a purchase. What was unusual was that Danny never returned home, and the people who ran the facility became concerned enough to contact his family and police immediately. Where could Danny have gone with the clothes on his back and $20 in cash? More than eight years later, Danny’s family is still searching for the answers to that question.

If you have any information regarding the disappearance of Daniel Farrar, please contact the Connecticut State Police at 860-399-2100.

Introducing Wondery Presents: Frozen Head

Introducing Suspect Season 2: Vanished In The Snow

Introducing COLD: The Search for Sheree:

Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City on a mild October evening in 1985. She told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband, Charles Warren, at a car dealership. But she never made it, Sheree vanished. When her car mysteriously surfaced weeks later, hundreds of miles away in Las Vegas, no one could say how it got there.

Introducing...Pig Iron. A story about the mysterious death – and life – of a young war reporter on the frontline. At first, it looked like another tragedy of war… a young journalist caught in the crossfire. Until, just hours after his death, his story splintered. The government claimed he wasn’t a journalist at all, but a foreign fighter – a legitimate target. Other evidence suggested he was killed on purpose for being a reporter. In this new series from Tortoise and the team behind Sweet Bobby, Pig Iron is a journey into the dark seduction of war, and what really happened to Christopher Allen.

An encore episode featuring the Kai Matthews story and the silencing of Dr. Francis Christian for raising questions about vaccines for children. Audio recorded during his firing is shocking in its depiction of tunnel vision by those who wanted Dr. Christian gone — going so far was to suggest he needed help for questioning the public health narrative. Jordan Peterson is also facing reeducation from his professional licensing body that is taking umbrage with his social media posts. Scary times.

The public health performance artists in Ontario are at it again. To protect “overwhelmed" hospitals we are being asked to mask-up — despite the fact there is no evidence masks do a thing to stop viral spread. It is not a mandate but rather a strong suggestion of the kind that makes one feel guilty for not complying. This is a neat trick aimed at focusing the public's attention on mask-renegades instead of hospital CEO’s and goverment ministers who seem incapable of increasing capacity. Everything is always the fault of the citizens and not the overlords. OSHA-qualified mask expert Megan Mansell knows as much about masking as anyone and exposes this latest C-19 folly. And Trish goes off on the mad crypto-bro who funded the Democrat election win while stealing from his investors.

In this episode, first aired in 2011, we talk about the meaning of a good game — whether it's a pro football playoff, or a family showdown on the kitchen table. And how some games can make you feel, at least for a little while, like your whole life hangs in the balance. This hour of Radiolab, Jad and Robert wonder why we get so invested in something so trivial. What is it about games that make them feel so pivotal?

We hear how a recurring dream about football turned into a real-life lesson for Stephen Dubner, we watch a chessboard turn into a playground where by-the-book moves give way to totally unpredictable possibilities, and we talk to Dan Engber, a one time senior editor at Slate, now at The Atlantic, and a bunch of scientists about why betting on a longshot is so much fun. And finally, we talk to Malcolm Gladwell about why he loves the overdog.

This episode —first released in 2009 and then again in 2015, with an update — asks, what is “normal”? Maybe it exists, maybe not. We examine peace-loving baboons with Stanford neuroscientist Robert Sapolsky, talk to Stu Rasmussen, whose preferred pronouns were he/him (https://zpr.io/nUdsZawNmhwt), and his neighbors in Silverton, Oregon about how a town chooses its community over outsider opinions. And lastly, we speak with an evolutionary anthropologist, Duke University’s own Brian Hare, and an evolutionary biologist Tecumseh Fitch, then at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, now at the University of Vienna, Austria, about foxes who love to snuggle. And what we find is that normal — maybe the only normal — is change.

This episode, first aired in 2017, has Reporter Tracie Hunte and Editor Soren Wheeler exploring a hidden power in the U.S. Court System that is either the cornerstone of our democracy or a trapdoor to anarchy.

Should a juror be able to ignore the law? From a Quaker prayer meeting in the streets of London to riots in the streets of Los Angeles, we trace the history of a quiet act of rebellion and struggle with how much power “We the People” should really have.Special thanks to Darryl K. After graduating from high school, without a clear plan for what to do next, Laura Andrews started asking herself a lot of questions. A spiral of big philosophical thoughts that led her to sit down and write to us with a question that was… oddly mathematical.  What is the most average size thing, if you take into account everything in the universe. So, along with mathematician Steven Strogatz, we decided to see if we could sit down and, in a friendly throwdown of guesstimates and quick calculations, rough out an answer.

Special thanks to all the listeners who sent in their responses to this question.

A global pandemic. Thousands dying. A passive government. An afflicted group fueled by grief and anger. In this episode, first aired in 2020, Reporter Tracie Hunte wanted to understand this moment of pain and confusion. As she looked back three decades, she found a complicated answer to a simple question: when nothing seems to work, how do you make change?

When U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren was asked at the end of his career, “What was the most important case of your tenure?”, there were a lot of answers he could have given. He had presided over some of the most important decisions in the court’s history — cases that dealt with segregation in schools, the right to an attorney, the right to remain silent, just to name a few. But his answer was a surprise: he said “Baker v. Carr,” a 1962 redistricting case.

On this 2016 episode, part of our series More Perfect, we talk about why this case was so important. Important enough that it pushed one Supreme Court justice to a nervous breakdown, brought a boiling feud to a head, gave another justice a stroke, and changed the course of the Supreme Court — and the nation — forever. This episode is the one of the few times you can hear the voice of our Executive Producer Suzie Lechtenberg. After years of leading the team, Suzie will leave WNYC to start her new adventure. Suzie: re-publishing this episode is our way of saying thank you for all you’ve done — for the show and for each of us. Team Radiolab wishes you nothing but success and so much happiness in the next stage of your career.

Mel Blanc was known as “the man of 1,000 voices,” but, to hear his son tell it, the actual number was closer to 1,500. Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Barney Rubble, Woody Woodpecker, Sylvester, Foghorn Leghorn — all Mel. These characters made him one of the most beloved men in the United States.

In this episode from 2012, Mel Blanc’s son Noel tells Producer Sean Cole how his father’s entire body would transform to bring life to these characters. But on a fateful day of 1961, after a  crash left Mel in a lengcoma, it was the characters who brought life to him.Episode Credits:Reported by Sean Cole

About this podcast: The question is simple, will the 45th President of the United States end up in jail when he leaves office. The story to understand is how did we get here?

Donald Trumps administration has been filled with indictments, rumors, and speculation that his ties to Russia have influenced his policy decisions and compromised his ability to lead. The deeper question is inside the fracturing media environment: what is true and what is simply rumor? The politics of anger, fear, and division has compromised the biggest story of our generation. Mainstream media outlets compromised by corporate media dollars pander to each side of the aisle, only filtering news for each party line. Trump Mafia is a deep investigative dive into three major threads that surround President Donald Trump: 1. What are the many crimes that Donald Trump could or would be charged with related to his time in the office or his familys work inside the Trump Organization? 2. Who exactly is investigating the President currently, and what possible crimes are they really looking into? 3. Are there concrete ties between Donald Trump, the Trump Family, or associates related to Russian Intelligence and the Russian Mafia?

Let’s face it, you probably want to know, where is this Special Counsel guy, Jack Smith, is he back from the Hague in the Netherlands, where is he working out of, what could he possibly be doing, and finally, will this Special Counsel do what no one seems to be able to do in any jurisdiction — Indict Donald J. Trump! In the case of Donnie, don’t we all wish it could happen as quickly as an episode of Law and Order? Wouldn’t that be nice, clean, efficient, end years of bullshit, madness, and sadness that this guy was President? Tracking various news outlets, it seems as if the media titans are really wondering, what is going on, who is working with Jackie Boy, and are there any clues as to what exactly he is interested in? Here is what I am finding, after reviewing articles in Slate, the New York Times, and the Washington Post: His task is two-fold according to reporting in SLATE------ The ongoing investigation involving classified documents and other presidential records found on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property— 26 boxes’ worth—and the investigation into whether any person or entity unlawfully interfered with the transfer of power following the 2020 presidential election. He also issued about 40 subpoenas in a week’s time for his investigation into the 2020 election certification. Those subpoenas include testimony from Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger — the guy Trump pleaded with to just find 11,780 votes—along with election officials across the country. Trump’s former White House counsel Pat Cipollone and his chief deputy, Patrick Philbin, have already testified before Smith’s grand jury. If you ask me, as far as I am concerned, this whole classified doc situation, let’s just call it even at this point, I mean Biden has docs at his library, at his home in Delaware, I mean shit as a kid I used to vacation in Rehoboth Beach, where I know Biden has a Summer home, have they found docs there as of yet?

I told you at the top of the year I wanted to branch out in terms of stories and intel, I am confident I can keep you informed on interesting tidbits that are starting to form across the world, and one area that always keeps my fascination is the work of global intelligence agencies, across our planet. This week I caught a story written and investigated by William K. Rashbaum, and I am going to butcher this name, Megha Rajagopalan, both NY Times journalist. The headline is very curious: WITH FBI SEARCH US ESCALATES GLOBAL FIGHT OVER CHINESE POLICE OUTPOSTS. What I find odd, is first how on earth are Chinese Police functioning on United States soil, what are these outposts that they speak of. Would it be odd, if we had NYPD in China, I think so, but maybe I am just uniformed.

I swear that I am not an angry guy, I really swear, this morning I even listened to the Dalai Lama on a podcast with Dan Harris, they were talking about the idea we are all one, and trust me, I want to feel like that I really do, I am trying, but.... I can say there is a member of the Republican Party that is not Donnie, that when I see him or I hear him, physically makes me have a visceral reaction of anger, a hatred that is very rare and as of late, I just choose to ignore it, as they say I have been trying to become more Eastern philosophy, more buddhist, but browsing the New York Times, I saw a headline and a picture that I had to read a few times, because I thought it was an ad for a George Orwell novel, and next to it, there he was a picture of Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio. Was My mind playing Tricks on Me, my brain not registering what I was reading? Divided House Approves G.O.P. Inquiry into Weaponization of Government? That was the headline of the New York Times, and it was in this moment, I started to become apoplectic. I threw the controller at the TV, and realized finally, the Republicans have decided to look into the weaponization of Government, and Jim Jordan is leading the charge? But hold up WHAT THE FUCK is the weaponization of government, and why is this flaming asshole excuse of a politician talking about the weaponization of the government when he was one of the dickheads, who sided with this idea that the election was fixed and Stop the Steal. Now before we move forward, I don’t know what it is about Jordan, but I know he was a wrestler or a wrestling coach, and every fucking time I see that guy he reminds me of that fucking creepy movie that Steve Carrell was in, when he played that weirdo wrestling coach based on E.I. Dupont, and that whole fucking creepy house, and wrestling tights, and if I am being honest, Jim Jordan just looks like the fucking guy who was the house, wrestling, and I can remember some scandal with Jordan when he was a coach at Ohio State University, and a doctor and genitals, and the whole fucking bit. Not sure if I made that up because I hate the guy, but I think all that actually happened and people in Ohio thought yeah sure WHY NOT VOTE for the guy who looked the other way when a doctor molested some kids, sounds about right.

It seems like here at Trump mafia headquarters we get a bit of fan mail, and I have to say, I like to give these people a shout out, and admit when I am wrong, or missed something. This week, I got a message from Markus, and it reads: I have enjoyed your Trump Mafia podcast very much - until the most current episode - Sunset Boulevard. Now, I understand that not everybody is into classic movies, but labeling Sunset Boulevard “a dumb movie from the 1950’s” is not only ignorant, but it also makes me question the author’s ability to objectively talk about the bigger themes surrounding Trump. First, Sunset Boulevard is an outstanding and for its time revolutionary movie that’s rightfully and consistently listed among the best American movies of all time by film critics, filmmakers, and historians. The fact that Trump adores it doesn’t mean he values cinematic art, he obviously has no clue what the movie really is about. And THAT is the fascinating part of his obsession with this film. Yes, the parallels between Norma Desmond and Trump are eerily creepy, but she’s a sad and tragic figure who ends up killing the young screenwriter/admirer she keeps in her house. The movie ends with Norma Desmond being driven to a fake film set so she thinks she’s finally making another movie, while the police are waiting for her on the other end. Why would Trump admire a psychotic, deranged diva who’s no longer wanted by anyone and who ends up in prison? She’s - based on Trump’s logic - a “big time loser”! I mean, what Trump sees or not sees in this film is telling us more about his deranged narcissistic psyche than all his Tweets, rambling speeches, and embarrassing interviews. - I’d say, neither the New York Magazine article nor the Washington Post piece have been able to truly unravel this mystery. FASCINATING, and SAD. Cheers, Markus Well Markus, Well said, brilliant analogy and terrific examination of how the mainstream media missed the talking points on the film, I am not old Hollywood film buff, but man o man you nailed it brother, I missed that nuance, so with that I humbly thank you. I guess Markus brings up a good point and something I like to examine here on the podcast, and that is the many insane at times think pieces of mainstream journalism that covers politics. Who has the time to parse thru so much information, and who should we all be listening to. At times I listen to the Joe Rogan podcast, and Rogan said something last week that I appreciate, to watch or read the news these days, a lot of these platforms lack the ability to just have a normal common sense conversation, or a conversation you would have sitting around someone’s living room, let’s be honest if Rachel Maddow showed up at your party and she talked like she did on air, you would think she was mental, RIGHT? I am in constant motion and searching for ideas and articles that are driving our conversations, or hidden gems that I can talk about here or give my own humble analysis, and with that is a full ingestion of what is becoming a fractured news and media business. Most of the younger generation are more apt to gravitate towards social media , get their news from Instagram or Tik Tok, or Twitter, I would hope the Trump mafia is a more sophisticated bunch, who actually seek out good info, or original info, or information that challenges the status quo. With this latest batch of mail, from listeners, I also know that I must keep sharp, and the Trump story, well let’s be honest for the last few months, it has been moments of immense starting news leaks, balanced out with this idea that the Trump Train maybe is losing steam or gas. But I keep staying in somewhere in the middle, because what we have ALL done collectively over the course of the last few years, is underestimate the power of a CARNIVAL BARKER to capture the attention of the majority of America, we ALL should be shaking our heads that WE STILL Can have these conversations about Trump, and the narrative continues. I get a sense, yet again right now is the calm before the storm, a QUIET period before sheer LUNACY grips our political spectrum, but with that in mind, let me run down some of the media and political trends I am seeing, feeling or hearing as we start the year, as I feel like this week was the FIRST REAL Week where PEOPLE are really starting to get comfortable in 2023, let the madness begin.

Alright, fine, I know I have been away. I’m sorry, I’m sorry what do you want from me huh, it’s not easy tracking this piece of shit for years now, it has been a drain on my soul, it has been a drain on my fucking brain. But, first order of business is some fan mail from Jeff Cane, an Englishman in LA. I agree with you, Cousin Andy and Mr. Schmatta, those guys they are lost man, they sit in their own enclaves and bubble of Trump martyrdom, and they continue to have diarrhea of the mouth and isn’t that the point. I wanted to run that without commentary, without interruption because sadly enough Jeffrey there is a large percentage of American’s out there that are lost, just simply adrift in a political boat up river, a Heart of Darkness Journey for lack of a better term, so again Jeff, I promise, if Cousin Andy ever appears again on Trump Mafia, he will be grilled for his faulty beliefs, for his views that remind me of the people that drank the Kool aid in Jonestown, or the fellas who took the potion who were wearing velour jumpsuits and Nike Cortez waiting for some alien space ship that never arrived. I can’t say we do top notch journalism here at the Mafia, but I agree that maybe I should have held Cousin Andy’s feet to the fire, but isn’t it much better to just let the craziness roll? I think in my vacation, it has been a little quiet, a little depressed and from what I have been reading, there seems to be a lot of journalistic think pieces on Donnie that basically remind me of the kind of journalism that is written when an athlete who is supposed to retire, plays that extra season, steps into that ring one more time, or makes that comeback run wearing number 45 like Jordan when he played for the Washington Wizards, you remember that don’t you? But let’s hold up a bit here and really talk about this, if Donnie is on the ropes, if Donnie is in this depressing vortex, or if New Year’s Eve at Mar a Lago was piss in my chowder boring, then maybe this is the end, maybe just maybe this is it?? I mean I literally saw a headline about New Year’s Eve at Mar-A-Lago being depressing, come on journalists we can do better than that, I am sure the fucking conservative, plastic surgery Dinosaur set at the resort were fine with their expensive champagne and Beef Wellington, let’s not get crazy here.

I want to apologize to the listeners, when I look around , I am not inspired, I can’t find the motivation or the wherewithal to dive into the nuances of our American political system because as far as I see it, as a country currently, the bottom line no matter how you swing it, is stupidity reigns, greed reigns, idiots reign, and HATE reigns. What is the deal with all this hate, antisemitism, racism, classicism, every hate imaginable it fills our airwaves, and our screens. Why do I have to read about the hate speech of Kanye, or Nick Fuentes, or that fucking excuse of a human being hanging out with Kanye Milo Yiannopoulos, or whatever the fuck his name is, I thought that dick head went back to the rock he crawled out of. SO fuck Kanye, Fuck Trump, Fuck McConnell, fuck Herschel Walker, fuck the right wing Oath Keepers, and fuck EVERYONE who utters words of hate, or racism, or antisemitism, go fucking get a job, have a Budweiser and like they say in Chicago GET FUCKED, ….as you can see for some reason my Apple News feed, my TV, I keep seeing the lowest common denominator shine through, and you know what I guess we deserve it, we earned it.

Welcome to the first ever Trump Mafia Live Interview. As only we at Trump Mafia HQ could do, we just walked into a bar in Connecticut, found a couple of Pro-Trumpers, and let them have the mic. To protect their identities, we will call them by their suggested noms de plumes — Cousin Andy and Mr. Schmatta. The ideas and opinions of this episode do no reflect the opinions of Trump Mafia.

Red Wave, Blue Wave, it seems these days when you look at this political menagerie what is there really to get excited about, but here are my personal musings and takeaways, do with it what you will, and don’t hold my feet to the fire right now, as I know some results are still trickling in, so I reserve the right as they say in legal circles to change my opinion and my observations. Well, first thing is that it appears as if Donnie "T" is very upset, I think the word is LIVID from what I can tell and what early reporting is indicating. But I am not sure WHY, the narrative I feel that exists right now is that there was NO RED WAVE, but at the end of the day, it looks like Republicans will control the House, and probably the Senate, so how the fuck is that good news? Under the circumstances I just feel that adds to a more divided country and more fuckery from the Republican power base, again this is still up in the air, but I don’t know how the Democrats are happy. I want whatever the fuck they're smoking.

Midterm Mayhem, is what you can call it, and I guess as we all go about our days and nights we probably have more important things to worry about, maybe you got hemorrhoids, or you have to host Aunt Karen for Thanksgiving, or even worse you have to get on an airplane on the day before Thanksgiving and try and survive the 1,000 deadly cuts that is American air travel, BUT I’m here for you because we should talk a little bit about the mid-terms, and for you young TikTok twerps I am not talking about your college exams, pay attention. Why do I care, why should you care, I don’t fucking know, but I have a feeling call it a gut instinct that if the mid-terms go a certain way, as a country we might embark on a new frontier of overwhelming ass backward political shenanigans that make the Trump presidency look like a time of tranquility. So, if you haven’t been paying attention let me give you a quick explainer, and keep in mind, I am not sure that I even like politics but at a certain point I can’t sit on my hands. Early intel and polls are showing a few things, let me give you the rundown: The midterms are November 8th for those of you who have been living in a fucking hole, A CNN poll shows that voters are now more inclined to vote Republican than Democrat, despite earlier predictions that showed the opposite, let’s take the polling stuff with a grain of salt, remember no polls predicated good old Donnie Boy.

I have spent a lot of time in my life investigating criminals, drug kingpins, arms dealers, killers, shooters, mafia hit men, you name it I’ve sat face to face with em, so I know crime, I know gangsters, and I know the underworld. As of late as I look at the geo-political landscape, and the globalization of crime and business, I can only shake my head. Recently I did a film about a crew of kids in New York City named the Supreme Team, they were major narcotics traffickers who fed New York City with crack cocaine, and now the two leaders find themselves in jail for life, which I find on the surface to not be quite fair. My calculation is based on the level of criminality that now takes place in politics and actually has an effect on our lives, which is staggering. That is why recently when I read an article in Vanity Fair, I got angry, I couldn’t believe what I was reading, Jared Kushner, was given $2 Billion Dollars from Saudi Arabia’s sovereign Wealth Fund.
